Red Box Review — The Jone$es
The Jone$es (2009– 96 mins) D. Moore, D. Duchovny
The Jonses is a movie where there are some plot points that they try to keep a secret for about the 1st 1/4 or so of it, so to say to much might give it away. Let me first give you how IMDB.com describes the plot. To Quote—> A seemingly perfect family moves into a suburban neighborhood, but when it comes to the truth as to why they’re living there, they don’t exactly come clean with their neighbors.
Naturally this has a couple of twists and turns but they seems to fit well. I do like how it’s not your run of the mill film. It’s got many of subtexts to it. They might not be telling the truth about their family, but when it comes down to it they still have to deal with all the real family problems in their day to day life. It’s a minor subtext really to the overall plot but I do think it’s brought about nicely. Duchovny as the patriarch is seemingly disinterested with his part and wants to find a better place inthe world. His inner struggle helps to define another subtext of the film. I did enjoy the movie to be honest and I think alot of people will. It’s not a very easy to define movie, but it’s got a main drama plot to it but it gets there in many comedic ways.
Verdict—> I recomend this movie. It’s again, not a mainstream movie for most, but I think it’s definately worth a look. Duchovny and Demi Moore are both good in it and it’s not drawn out or too short, pretty much just right. (Rated R –no kids)
