Red Box Review — Killers
Killers (2010— 93mins) Kutcher, Heigl
Killers is a romantic comedy about a gov’t special agent (Kutcher) who meets that special girl (Heigll) who makes him want to hang it all up. Being a gov’t appointed killer he doesn’t want to scare his new love so he never reveals this to his new squeeze. This is fine at first but once someone tries to kill him when they have been married for a while, things get thrown on their head.
I will warn this, I will sound like I am complaining about a bunch of this movie but I did think it was pretty funny, and I did like it. However, there is something about the way these two work together that is good at times and forced at times. I am not sure if it is directly them two together, or if it’s the rare times Kutcher is trying to be a bad-ass or serious in a comedic role. It just seems uncomfortable or forced. It should flow a little bit better and seem more cheeky. There is also a growing ridiculousness from middle to end that kinda grows old but then lo and behold they try and explain it all away at the end. It becomes a farce when everyone you see is out to get you. If they toned that down a bit it would have helped the bottom line a bit more b.c the “explanation” works but still makes you scratch your head a bit.
I want to add one more thing that I love. Catherine O’Hara is great as Heigl’s mother. More and more as she gets older I love everything she is in. She adds this sort of self effacing humor to every role and is a great actress at that. Tom Selleck plays Heigl’s dad and as usual in Tom’s way is a likeable guy. It’s gotta be that delievery, the Tom voice or the mustache, I’m not quite sure which one.
Verdict—> Good couple’s movie for sure. It’s more for the date crowd then the married crowd but honestly either one will enjoy it. Pick it up for a good double feature with Date Night. (Next up on our Red Box Review list!)
