Red Box Review: Chloe
Chloe (2009 — 96 mins) A. Seyfried, L. Neeson, J. Moore
David (Neeson) and Catherine (Moore) are a happily married couple for a long time. Yet, when flirty David misses a flight and thus misses a surprise birthday party, Catherine gets suspicious that he might be having an affair. She approaches an escort,Chloe (Seyfried) to come on to her husband to “test” his faithfulness to her. This goes on for a few episodes of meeting with Chloe as she reports back the encounters. From this end things begin to get complicated. The whole family gets wrapped up in the drama as Chloe gets entrenched in their lives. It’s got some decent suspense, intrigue and twists to it as well. I enjoyed this movie as a change of pace from the usual movies we get to watch. Even tho I saw the twist coming I think it helps the movie as a whole. There are only so many Lolita’sthe world wants to see. This is a bit of a twist on the adultery genre. That’s why I think I can recommend this as a dcent change of pace watch.
The actors all do a good job with their roles. Neeson and Moore don’t play much of a departure from what we have seen them before. Both are vets at the drama/suspense type characters and do it well. The departure from the norm here is seeing Seyfried as the escort. She has been the sweet girl next door who can basically do no wrong in the viewer’s eyes. The normally innocent actress plays more of the mysterious bad girl here. She does play it decently but sometimes she just seems a bit uncomfortable in the role but ultimately she succeeds at showing us a new side of her repertoire.
Verdict—> While not a family movie (AT ALL) due to situations and sex scenes/themes, it is a good watch. If you want to see a change of pace/drama movie it’s a good rental to get at the Red Box. It’s also a decent length for a double feature to pair with an actiony or Rom-com to pair off the heavy drama of it all.
